The Jack MacKenzie 25th Anniversary Celebration was held on Saturday, May 23 at the school. It was a wonderful event for our past and present school community! We started with a 2 KM Fun Run with participants returning to the front lawn with a full rock band greeting them! Thank you Mr. Hackel and the Dad Bod Squad!
Alumni and current staff and students and family members filled the hallways and gym. We were fortunate to have 23 family members of Mr. MacKenzie join us from across Western Canada. The majority of the first staff were also present!
We had a delicious pancake and sausage breakfast thanks to our School Community Council. Umoja, our drumming group, brought us together for the program with the Gathering Song. Trustee Ted Jaleta brought greetings from the school division. Speakers included the first Principal, Rick Orban and alumnus, Rachel Baber as well as a treasured past educator, Harmony MacMillan. Mr. MacKenzie's nephew, RJ, spoke on behalf of the family and shared their love for their Uncle Jack and this beautiful school community. Zak Middlekoop and Meryim Irshad did a wonderful job sharing their insight on "life as a current JM student".
Musical pieces included a student Ukulele performance of "You are my Sunshine" led by Miss Stadnick. An Alumni Choir, under the direction of Alicia Reschny and Marlene Hinz did a beautiful piece, Umoja Tunaimba. The program ended with unveiling the Legacy Video produced by Halter Media followed by a community sing song of our beloved O Siem .
The event continued with Tours, a Drumming Circle and outdoor play opportunities for families. After 3:30 PM, adults gathered at Rock Creek for a social.
This community had so much to celebrate... 25 years of effort and kindness! We will continue Jack's vision for the next 25!
