Christmas Concert-December 15th, 2016-Times: 1:15 & 7:00 PM

Dear Parents/Guardians,

The staff and students are working hard to prepare our Christmas musical production.  The concert date is Thursday, December 15th.  We will be putting on two shows that day at 1:15 and 7:00.  The seating capacity of our gym limits the size of our audience.  We will be limiting the number of seats per family at two seats for the evening performance, with hopes to provide opportunity for more people to join us as seats are not claimed or turned back over to the school.

Procedure for evening ticket allocations:

Each family will have until Thursday, Dec. 8th at 9:00 am to decide if they require tickets for the evening concert.  The youngest child in the family will be able to pick up 2 tickets from their classroom teacher.  Any tickets not claimed will be redistributed.   Families who require more tickets must request extra seats by Wednesday morning.   Please send the request form (below) back to your teacher if you require more tickets.

We will use Friday to coordinate the distribution of extra tickets and inform the families receiving more tickets no later than Monday, Dec. 12th.

The afternoon show will have open seating with no limits in seating per family.  We have a capacity of about 700 people in the gym.  Please be diligent about claiming your tickets.  Other families will be anxiously waiting for more tickets to become available.

Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter.

Russ Clarke – Principal

@ Jack MacKenzie School, Thurs., Dec. 8, 2016, from 7-8 PM

Have you ever built a snowman and discovered the next day that his grin has gotten a little crooked, or his tree-branch arms have moved? And you've wondered . . . what do snowmen do at night? Come and hear this witty, imaginative story that reveals amusing details about the secret life of snowmen and where they go at night.

Following this, author, teacher and speaker, Trina Markusson will be here to share her book “Good Morning Sunshine.”  Parents and children can learn about mindfulness in this heartwarming story about a boy named Zachary who wakes up feeling worried.  Together with his mother, he learns about the power of mindfulness and finding peace and happiness in the present moment.

Then enjoy some cookies, candy, and hot chocolate

Dear Jack MacKenzie Families:

As you are all aware, November 11 is Remembrance Day.

On November 11, 1918 at 11:00 am, the First World War came to an end.  It lasted over four years, killed or injured nearly 30 million military personnel and devastated some of the world’s biggest empires.  It changed the future of people, countries and continents.  Canada’s contribution was significant, unprecedented and costly.  The country came out proud and victorious, while mourning the loss or injury of 250,000 Canadians.  Throughout November, we REMEMBER.

We honour those men and women who fought in various conflicts, so we are able to live in a country that is safe and free.  The poppy is a symbol associated with Remembrance Day and shows that we are thinking about and honouring those who bravely fought for us.  It is important that everyone knows the meaning of wearing a poppy.

As a sign of respect for our veterans, everyone at Jack MacKenzie School will be provided with a poppy to wear for Remembrance Day.  We are asking all students to bring a Toonie donation for this poppy prior to the Remembrance Day ceremony which will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2016.  If every student brought just $2.00 for their poppy, our school would raise over $800.00 for our veterans.  Let’s all work together to show honour and appreciation for our veterans.

Sincerely,

Jack MacKenzie Staff.
